SHIFT is suitable for disinfection in beekeeping (hives, frames, mating nucs, tools and instruments, storage and transport equipment, beekeeping supplies and small accessories).

Preventive disinfection in bee colonies

Sanitation protocol for breeding section (hives, mating nucs, frames, tools, storage, transport equipment)

Goals:

1. Reduce the number of harmful microorganisms to a safe level.
2. Minimize infectious pressure on equipment surfaces.
3. Maintain wooden surfaces at minimum inhibitory concentration for several weeks.
4. Regulate pests to minimum.

Products used:

• Chemical pre-washing: Shift (0.5-1%)
• Disinfection: SHIFT (2% immersion, 4% spray), GPC8 (2% immersion, 4% spray)
• Pest insect control: Neporex 2SG, Fendona 6SC (0.5%)
• Rodent control: Lanirat PG, Deralan G, Hubex, gels

Critical points:

1. Mechanical cleaning.
2. Application of disinfectant solution.
3. Control of solution effectiveness.
4. Disinfection contact time.
5. Drying, rinsing and ventilation.

SANITATION procedure:

HIVES:

1. Mechanical cleaning and flame:
   • Scrape off wax residues, propolis and feces.
   • Flame wooden surfaces.
2. Washing:
   • For heavy contamination use Shift (1%).
   • Apply Shift foam (1%), leave for 20 minutes and rinse.
3. Disinfection:
   • Use SHIFT (4% foam, 300 ml/m²), pay special attention to hive bottom.
   • Solution control: Brown coloration indicates effectiveness.
4. Drying:
   • Let dry, do not rinse and ventilate for one month.

FRAMES:

1. Boiling and mechanical cleaning:
   • Boil and clean frames.
2. Disinfection:
   • Immerse in 2% SHIFT for 30 minutes.
   • After 30 minutes let dry.
3. Frame installation:
   • Let ventilate for one month before use.

MATING NUCS and accessories:

1. Mechanical cleaning and flame:
   • Scrape off wax residues and flame.
2. Disinfection:
   • Immerse in 2% SHIFT for 30 minutes.
3. Drying:
   • Let dry and ventilate for one month.

TOOLS:

1. Flaming and mechanical cleaning:
   • Flame metal tools (≥100°C).
   • Mechanically clean tools that cannot be flamed.
2. Disinfection:
   • Immerse in 2% SHIFT for 30 minutes.
3. Drying:
   • Let dry.

STORAGE AND TRANSPORT EQUIPMENT:

1. Mechanical cleaning:
   • Thoroughly clean floor and walls.
2. Disinfection and whitewashing:
   • Treat with 4% SHIFT (300 ml/m²).
   • Let dry, whitewash ceiling and walls every two years.
3. Pest control and rodent control:
   • Use Neporex 2SG against larvae and Fendona 6SC against insects.
   • Against rodents use poison stations with Lanirat or Deralan granules.

SMALL ACCESSORIES:

1. Mechanical cleaning:
   • Clean all parts at contact workplace.
2. Disinfection:
   • Treat with 2% SHIFT solution for 30 minutes.
   • Then rinse with drinking water.

WARNING:

1. In case of American foulbrood occurrence, burn all equipment.
2. Separate equipment for different apiaries.
3. Do not transport hives between apiaries.

Preventive disinfection in food processing section (honey house, honey bottling facility, product storage)

Goals:

1. Minimize infectious pressure on surfaces and honey extractors.
2. Ensure biological safety and maintain honey quality.
3. Regulate pests to minimum.

Products used:

• Washing and disinfection in one phase: Vanoquat (1%)
• Pest insect control: Neporex 2SG, Fendona 6SC (0.5%)
• Rodent control: Lanirat PG, Deralan G, Hubex, gels

2. Visible application of disinfectant.
3. Control of solution effectiveness.
4. Disinfection contact time.
5. Rinsing, drying and ventilation.

SANITATION procedure:

HONEY HOUSE, HONEY BOTTLING FACILITY AND PRODUCT STORAGE:

1. Mechanical cleaning:
   • Mechanically clean contact surfaces and floor.
2. Washing and disinfection:
   • Spray (foam) with 1% Vanoquat solution (300 ml), let act for 30 minutes.
   • Wash honey containers and tools and immerse in 1% Vanoquat.
   • Solution control using Vanoquat test strip.
3. Pest control and rodent control:
   • Use insect screens in windows and insecticides.
   • Regular rodent control measures.

Final warnings:

• Without high-pressure water equipment, apply a layer that will remain wet for min. 30 minutes.
• Use drinking water for rinsing.
• Alternatively, "Savo original" (1:10) can be used.
• Perform disinfection more frequently when clinical signs of diseases appear.
