Quality plastic spacers. If you are using straight frames (no Hoffman profile). Length is 9 mm, permissible temperature 75 °C.
Keep your hive organized and maintain precise bee space between frames. Semi-transparent conical spacers made of high-pressure polyethylene (PE) facilitate work when disassembling and assembling brood chambers and honey supers while being gentle to the bee colony.
No corrosion when treating bee colonies: With regular spacers, nails often suffer from rust when applying treatments, typically when working with formic acid. Here the nail head is recessed deep in the plastic, so the metal doesn't come into direct contact with the acid. The spacers thus last longer both functionally and visually.
More reliable frame spacing and stability: Thanks to the conical shape (7 mm at top, 9 mm at bottom) and larger contact surface, the spacer sits firmly on the top bar. Frames separate better even when handling heavy combs full of honey and maintain constant spacing.
Bee-friendly material: Polyethylene feels "waxy" to the touch, has no sharp edges, and bees accept it well. The semi-transparent design is inconspicuous in the hive and doesn't disturb.
Usually 4 spacers are used per frame. It's practical to place them on the side bars so that frames can be rotated freely in the hive (e.g., "crosswise" or with vertical displacement) and the spacers don't touch each other. This reliably maintains the precise 10 mm spacing.
Spacers are not heat-resistant. Do not put them in solar wax melters or wax boilers. At higher temperatures, the plastic softens and permanently deforms. Always remove spacers before melting out comb, or choose another method of wax recovery.
