Queen bee pheromone scent that attracts bees to settle in the application area.
An absconding bee swarm can cause a beekeeper a number of concerns, especially if the swarm clusters at a height, in a hard-to-reach spot, or on a neighboring property. The swarm lure scent in gel form contains queen bee pheromone, which helps attract the swarm into a pre-prepared empty hive. It facilitates the capture of swarmed bees and reduces the need for difficult interventions.
This swarm trap gel of Spanish origin is characterized by easy application and long-lasting effect. A single dose remains active for approximately 10 to 15 days. Bees can detect the lure scent from a distance of up to 2 kilometers, which increases the likelihood that the swarm will choose the prepared hive as its new home. The product is suitable for both beginner and experienced beekeepers.
The gel can also be used to capture stray swarms from other apiaries. These may pose a potential risk of introducing bee diseases into your colony. Their timely capture and subsequent inspection therefore help protect the health status of your own apiary.
Take approximately 10 g of gel from the package and apply it in a thin layer about 8 cm long onto the hive entrance of an empty hive. To increase the chance of a successful capture, place the hive in a sunny location approximately 50 cm above the surrounding ground level. Insert one or two drawn combs into the hive to create a suitable space for the swarm to settle. Check the prepared hive regularly, and once a swarm has been captured, proceed according to standard beekeeping practices.
