Natural and Gentle Solution for Bees

Shellac is a natural resin produced from the secretions of the lac insect (Kerria lacca). For beekeeping practice, it is particularly valuable because it is odorless, non-toxic and biodegradable. Thanks to this, it does not unnecessarily irritate the queen after marking and the colony usually accepts her back without problems, which helps reduce the risk of attack or killing by worker bees.

Proven Classic for Attaching Tags

Shellac has been used for attaching tags to queens in beekeeping for many years. In the past, it was partially replaced by acetone-based paints, from which practice often retreats. Common acrylic paints are also not ideal for attaching tags because they do not have the necessary adhesiveness. Alcohol-based shellac, on the other hand, works as a quick-drying glue that keeps the tag reliably in place for a long time – typically for the entire life of the queen.

Packaging Ready for Work at the Hive

The solution is supplied in a tightly sealed glass vial, in which it maintains good properties long-term. The set includes a stable wooden stand that helps prevent the vial from tipping over when handling the queen, as well as a wooden toothpick for precise application. If the glue thickens over time or begins to dry out, it can be easily restored by adding a small drop of pure alcohol to the original consistency.
