Stainless Steel Queen Excluder Mellarius – 463 × 477 mm

Do you need to reliably separate the brood chamber from the honey super and be sure that no brood gets into your honey combs? The wire stainless steel queen excluder Mellarius in size 463 × 477 mm is a solid and long-term solution for demanding beekeepers. The excluder is made of sturdy stainless steel wires that are permanently welded into a robust stainless steel frame. Thanks to this, it does not twist or bend, maintains its shape and easily handles regular manipulation and cleaning. Unlike plastic variants, there is no risk of cracking, breaking or deformation – the investment in stainless steel will pay off in the form of trouble-free operation for many seasons.

Clean honey without brood and comfortable bee passage

The task of the queen excluder is to prevent the queen bee from passing into the honey super. The queen thus remains in the brood chamber and does not lay eggs in the honey combs. For you, this means primarily clean honey combs and simpler, faster honey extraction. The spacing is precisely calibrated so that worker bees can safely pass through the excluder, while the queen remains below the excluder. Smooth metal wires are also generally considered very passable – bees do not get caught on them, do not damage their wings and can smoothly carry nectar into the honey super.

Practical tip: correct placement of the excluder in the hive

For the excluder to work really reliably while not unnecessarily hindering the bees, it pays to respect the so-called bee space. Do not place the excluder "tightly" directly on the top bars of the frames – the ideal placement is so that the bees can move freely under the excluder (and possibly above it) and do not get delayed. For maximum passability, we also recommend orienting the wires parallel to the top bars, which will reduce the number of obstacles when bees move between supers.

German craftsmanship for everyday beekeeping practice

This type of solid metal queen excluder is popular for its durability and reliability and is often used in professional operations, especially in Germany. The excluder from the renowned beekeeping supplies provider Mellarius is a practical part of equipment for modern and efficient beekeeping – wherever you want to have a honey super without brood and the hive under control.
