Fits over the entrance to prevent mice from entering while still allowing bees full access.
A galvanized metal entrance guard (grid) reliably protects the hive from mice, shrews, and other small rodents. The standard length is 50 cm (500 mm); you can choose the height according to your hive type and entrance design – available variants are 26, 31, and 42 mm. The pass-through openings are 8 mm high. If needed, the guard can be easily trimmed and cut to size with standard tin snips.

As temperatures drop in autumn, rodents seek warm and dry shelter. A hive is an attractive target for them, but their presence can be critical for the colony. Mice and shrews damage the comb, contaminate stores, and most importantly disturb the winter cluster. This leads to stress on the bees, higher consumption of stores, and the risk of digestive problems, which can ultimately result in colony loss. A sturdy metal grid fitted into the hive entrance effectively prevents this – the 8 mm openings are designed to allow bees to pass through freely, keep the entrance ventilated, and at the same time create an impenetrable barrier against rodents, including shrews.
