The first treatment against Varroa mites that can be used in three annual seasons/periods
VarroMed® is a modern and highly effective product for honey bee colony care from the Austrian company BeeVital. It is designed to maintain good bee health and provide protection against adverse effects (Varroa destructor). If you are looking for a reliable solution that is also gentle on your bees, VarroMed will meet your expectations. Thanks to its well-designed packaging in a 555 ml bottle with an integrated dropper and precise dosing scale, working with it is fast, clean, and perfectly straightforward even in demanding beekeeping operations.

Colony care often requires complicated dilution and precise timing. VarroMed® saves your precious time because it is a ready-to-use solution. You don't need to mix anything – simply pre-warm it, shake thoroughly, and apply. It is based on naturally occurring substances (formic acid and oxalic acid), which is why it boasts a zero withdrawal period for bee products. This means complete safety for honey and hassle-free use even in organic (BIO) beekeeping. Moreover, it gives you the freedom to intervene exactly when needed – in spring, late summer, autumn, or winter. This product is available without prescription throughout the EU.
Active ingredients: 1 ml of solution contains 5 mg of formic acid and 44 mg of oxalic acid dihydrate (equivalent to 31.42 mg of anhydrous oxalic acid).
Excipients: For the best possible acceptance by bees, the liquid is enriched with 20% propolis extract, star anise oil and lemon oil, sucrose syrup, ammonia-sulphite caramel (E150d), citric acid monohydrate, and purified water. Your bees will therefore not be unnecessarily stressed by unfamiliar odours.
Form: Light to dark brown suspension ready for direct and convenient use.
Application is exceptionally simple. VarroMed® is dripped directly onto the bees in the bee spaces between frames in the brood box. Before treatment, we recommend removing brace comb between the top bars of the frames to ensure the solution reaches exactly where it needs to go. Pre-warm the bottle to an optimal 25–35 °C before use and shake very thoroughly. Plan the treatment for a time of low flight activity, ideally in the late afternoon or evening.
Flexible use throughout the entire beekeeping year:
Spring period (1 to 3 applications): Ideal for early-season care at the start of the season.
Late summer and autumn (3 to 5 applications): A crucial treatment to protect the long-lived winter generation of bees.
Winter period (1 application): Final clean-up treatment in the winter cluster.
| 5,000 – 7,000 bees | 15 ml |
| 7,000 – 12,000 bees | 15 to 30 ml |
| 12,000 – 30,000 bees | 30 to 45 ml |
| More than 30,000 bees | 45 ml |
To achieve optimal results that are safe for the bees, do not use VarroMed® during the main honey flow or when there are honey combs intended for human consumption in the hive. Always apply the product evenly across the bee spaces to prevent localised over-saturation. After application, we recommend ensuring the colony has easy access to water. It is advisable to treat all colonies in the apiary at the same time. You can easily verify the effectiveness of the treatment by checking the natural mite drop on the monitoring board before treatment and approximately 6 days after each application cycle.
