Polystyrene hives are becoming increasingly popular. Low weight and small dimensions compared to wooden hives have resulted in growing popularity especially among beekeepers who operate with migratory apiaries.
This is also determined by easy disinfection, durability and aesthetic design. Beekeeping with polystyrene hives is practically no different from beekeeping with hives made of other materials. The only problem a beekeeper may encounter is increased humidity in the brood chamber, due to the impermeability of polystyrene. On the other hand, excellent thermal insulation properties ensure perfect temperature conditions, which influences rapid spring colony development.
