Procedure for preventive disinfection in bee colonies

FAM30

Product significance:

  • Efficacy: Broad-spectrum (effective against viruses, bacteria, fungi)
  • Operating conditions: Works at temperatures from -10°C, in hard water, on any surface and in the presence of organic contamination.
  • Active ingredient: Natural iodine
  • Auxiliary substances: Non-ionic alcohol-based wetting agent, acids used in beekeeping (sulfuric, phosphoric)

Application:

  • Immersion, spraying, foam, wiping, aerosol, ULV, ultrasonic and thermal generator.

Use:

  • Preventive disinfection and decontamination during dangerous infectious diseases, interruption of infection pressure and prevention of bacterial and fungal proliferation for up to several months.

Area of use, recommended concentrations and dosage in beekeeping:

1) Hive parts and tools coming into contact with bees:

  • Immersion treatment: Solution at 2% concentration (1:50 dilution ratio)
  • Foam or spray treatment: 4% concentration (1:25 dilution ratio)

2) Beekeeping supplies and daily-use tools, bee house, hive and lid exterior:

  • Foam or spray treatment: 1% concentration (1:100 dilution ratio)

Carry out preventive disinfection regularly to prevent the introduction and spread of new diseases and parasites.

Use of FAM30 for disinfection:

Disinfection of hives, hive parts and tools:

  • Spray/foam disinfection:
    • Hives (inner surface of bottom boards, supers, crown boards) of all materials, after cleaning or scorching, disinfect with FAM30 foam or spray at 4% concentration at a rate of 300 ml of solution per 1 m² of surface. Thoroughly treat the hive bottom board.
    • Consumption: For the inner surface of one bottom board, super and lid: 1.4 m² - 420 ml of solution (17 ml FAM30 + 403 ml water)
  • Immersion disinfection:
    • Frames, mating nucs, entrance reducers and other tools, after cleaning, disinfect by immersion for 30 minutes in a FAM30 bath at 2% concentration. At temperatures of 0-10°C, leave in the bath for 90 minutes.
    • Important: For temperatures below 0°C, contact a specialist.
    • Note: Always disinfect frames after each wax rendering (at least once a year).

Visual efficacy check:

  • Spray: The material changes color to brown after treatment (from iodine).
  • Foam: The material will be covered with ochre-brown foam for up to 30 minutes.
  • Immersion: An effective solution has a carmine-brown color, which changes to light brown/orange-yellow; then replace the solution.

After disinfection:

  • Allow treated hive parts to dry and air out for 2-4 weeks in a dry and clean place with free air circulation.
  • Carry out preventive disinfection at least once a year. In the event of colony losses or disease outbreaks, perform disinfection immediately.

Warnings:

  • Drawn comb to be placed into a colony must not be soaked in the disinfectant.
  • Stores from a dead colony with an unknown cause of death must not be used to feed other colonies.
  • Diluted solutions have a stability of 1 month.

Disinfection of beekeeping supplies and tools:

  • Spray/foam disinfection:
    • Treat all surfaces not coming into contact with honey with FAM30 solution at 1% concentration at a rate of 300 ml of solution per 1 m². Allow to act for at least 30 minutes or until dry.
    • Rinse equipment coming into contact with honey with drinking water.
    • Stability of diluted solutions is 1 month.

Visual efficacy check:

  • After spray treatment, the material changes color to brown.
  • Foam: Material covered with ochre-brown foam for up to 30 minutes.

Final warnings:

  • If you do not have access to a high-pressure water device with a foam nozzle or a hand sprayer with a foam nozzle, apply manually in a layer thick enough to remain moist for at least 30 minutes.
  • Use drinking water for rinsing.
  • Alternative products: GPC8TM (2-4% concentration), Vanodox® formula (1-2% concentration).
  • Burn unnecessary materials.
  • In the case of clinical signs of disease, increase the frequency and thoroughness of disinfection according to focal disinfection procedures.
  • For colonies with clinical signs of quarantine diseases, follow the extraordinary veterinary measures (EVM).
  • Always use protective equipment and follow proper disinfection procedures. Thoroughly rinse equipment coming into contact with food with drinking water.

General recommendations:

Rinse all equipment coming into contact with food for bees or humans with drinking water after disinfection. For other equipment and devices, allow the disinfectant to dry.
