Effective Wasp and Troublesome Insect Trap – Protection for Apiary and Garden

Are wasps increasing pressure on your hives in summer, or are wasps and other insects spoiling your time in the garden? This practical trap represents a simple yet very effective solution to reduce the occurrence of predators around the apiary and give you peace while working with hives and sitting outdoors. It works purely mechanically, without chemical preparations, making it suitable for beekeepers who prefer a gentle approach.

How it works and what it brings you

The container is designed with specially shaped entrances that narrow inward. Insects attracted by bait easily fly inside, but due to the conical profile of the opening, they have difficulty finding their way out and remain trapped in the trap.

  • Colony protection: Helps reduce the number of wasps and hornets that attack weaker colonies, especially during late summer, and participate in robbing stores.
  • Chemical-free: No need to use poisons, aerosols, or other sprays.
  • Flexible placement: Can be hung on a tree or structure near the apiary or placed on a table under a pergola.
  • Choice of capture method: Insects can be caught in solution, or when using solid bait (e.g., meat or fruit), the trap can be opened and wasps released away from inhabited areas.

Important warning for beekeepers: how to attract wasps, not bees

When using near hives, it is crucial to choose the right bait. Never use fresh sugar solution, syrup, or honey water – they would easily attract foragers and unnecessarily increase disturbance in the colonies.

Safer attractants that have proven effective:
1. Beer or wine: Fermentation aroma usually doesn't attract bees, while it's very attractive to wasps and hornets.
2. Wine vinegar with a little sugar: The mixture ferments quickly and attracts insects well.
3. Fermented fruit: Suitable especially in late summer and early autumn.
