Propolis Trap 41 × 41 cm

Plastic propolis collection grid measuring 410 × 410 mm is a practical tool for beekeepers who want to obtain propolis more cleanly, quickly and without unnecessary damage to hive parts. It is a sturdy, yet flexible and bendable plastic grid with special wedge-shaped grooves, which bees willingly fill with propolis. Use is simple – the grid is placed on the top bars of frames in the upper super, directly under the hive cover.

Benefit for beekeepers: clean propolis without scraping

Traditional scraping of propolis from frames and hive walls (e.g. with a knife) is time-consuming and often leads to contamination with wood or other impurities. The grid replaces this procedure with a gentler solution: bees, thanks to their natural instinct, gradually fill the grooves with propolis without being significantly restricted in their work in the hive. The result is raw material with minimal mechanical impurities and cleaner work for the beekeeper.

Procedure: sealing, cooling and easy crumbling

The grid is designed to make final harvesting as simple as possible. After sealing, remove it from the hive and place it in the cold (ideally in a freezer) to make the propolis brittle. A practical rule applies: below 15 °C propolis is hard and brittle, while above 20 °C it softens and becomes sticky. After cooling, simply bend the grid – thanks to the flexible plastic, the propolis easily cracks and crumbles out.

Propolis and its use in beekeeping practice

Regular propolis harvesting expands the possibilities of using bee products in beekeeping and further processing. Propolis is a mixture of resins and other natural substances that bees use to disinfect and seal the hive space. Collected raw propolis can be further processed – for example by soaking in alcohol to produce propolis tincture, or used as an ingredient in ointments and creams for home use.
