Flexible propolis trap - 435 x 435 mm
Propolis traps are an excellent way to harvest clean propolis from your hive and add extra income. Replace your crown board with our plastic propolis trap. The bees will fill the grooves of the trap with propolis.
Propolis Collection Trap 435 × 435 mm
Plastic propolis collection trap measuring 435 × 435 mm is a practical tool for beekeepers who want to harvest propolis quickly, gently, and without unnecessary impurities. It is made from a sturdy yet flexible and pliable plastic. Thanks to special wedge-shaped grooves, bees readily propolize the trap, making it significantly easier for you to remove and clean.

How to use the trap and how to harvest propolis
Simply place the trap on top of the frame top bars in the upper super, directly under the hive cover (inner cover). In nature, bees collect resins from tree buds and wounds, which they process inside the hive into propolis. They use it as "bee glue" – sealing cracks, reducing drafts, and contributing to hive hygiene. After inserting the trap, the bees gradually fill the grooves with propolis and seal the entire surface.
Once the trap is full, remove it and let it cool down – ideally place it in a freezer. Propolis is hard and brittle at lower temperatures (below approx. 15 °C / 59 °F), while at higher temperatures it becomes soft and sticky. After freezing, simply flex or carefully bend the trap and the frozen propolis will easily crumble out of the wedge-shaped grooves.
Why you should get this trap
The main advantage is time savings and cleaner propolis. There is no need for laborious scraping from wooden frame parts, where splinters and other impurities often contaminate the raw material. With this trap, you obtain higher-quality propolis ready for further processing. The trap from the well-established German beekeeping supplies manufacturer Heinrich Holtermann is also designed for repeated use over multiple seasons.
Practical uses of propolis
Propolis is valued among bee products for its wide range of applications. It is traditionally associated with antibacterial and antifungal properties and is frequently used in homemade products. From the harvested raw material, you can easily prepare propolis tincture, drops, ointments, balms, or soaps – for personal use as well as a popular supplementary product for customers.
