Markings tags for queen
Opalite queen marking labels are a simple, modern way to mark queen bees. Supplied in vivid colors and numbered 1–99, they help beekeepers quickly identify queens and record their age. The standard five-year color code—blue, white, yellow, red, and green—lets you check colonies at a glance. Labels are easily fixed to the queen’s thorax with shellac or synthetic glue. Choosing the right color for the calendar year improves hive management. Proven at the Bee Research Institute, these durable labels support long-term, reliable use in the apiary.

Adhesives for marker application
For attaching markers to queen bees, we offer two types of adhesive. One is based on natural shellac, which is odorless and gentle on the queen, while the other is made from synthetic resin. If the shellac adhesive thickens over time, it can be diluted with alcohol.
Application procedure
Applying an opal marker is straightforward if you follow these steps:
-
Secure the queen using a queen catcher so that her thorax is accessible.
-
Use tweezers to remove the correct marker from the sheet and apply a small amount of adhesive.
-
Attach the marker to the queen’s thorax and allow it to dry briefly.
-
Release the queen back into the hive.
