Plastic Langstroth 2/3 (159) Frames – Yellow for More Efficient Beekeeping

Want to simplify your work at the apiary and provide your colony with a clean, stable, and easy-to-maintain environment? All-plastic frames from a Czech supplier in the Langstroth 2/3 (159) frame size are a modern replacement for traditional wooden frames. They save time, reduce frame preparation costs, and meet high hygiene standards in beekeeping operations. Hollow Hoffmann-type side bars ensure proper bee spacing in the hive and contribute to better thermal insulation, supporting the colony's natural thermoregulation.

Less Work with Wiring and Foundation Sheets

A major advantage of plastic frames is the significant reduction in labor-intensive preparation. There is no need for nailing wooden frames, wiring, or inserting and embedding beeswax foundation sheets. The frame and foundation form a single unit, so after wax coating, the frame is ready to be placed in the hive. This system is appreciated by beginner beekeepers with just a few colonies as well as larger operations where every hour saved means greater work efficiency.

Safe and Durable Material for Beekeeping Operations

The frames are made from high-quality yellow polypropylene (PP), which is food-grade and completely safe for health. The material is resistant to temperatures up to 100 °C and, thanks to its strength, withstands routine handling in beekeeping operations. The smooth plastic surface is easy to maintain and helps improve hive hygiene, even during comb renewal. Unlike wood, it does not provide a suitable environment for the accumulation of contaminants, which is especially important in the prevention of diseases such as American foulbrood or nosemosis. The long service life of the frames further contributes to their cost-effectiveness.

Easy Preparation, Cleaning, and Comb Renewal

Before first use, simply coat the frame with a thin layer of beeswax using a roller, brush, or by dipping at a temperature of 70–85 °C. Bees readily accept the prepared foundation and draw out new comb on it similarly to a traditional wax foundation sheet. During comb renewal, simply scrape off the old comb with a putty knife and reinsert the frame into the hive. The bees will clean the cell bottoms themselves and rebuild the comb without the need for re-waxing. Thanks to the high rigidity of the frame, combs can be extracted in a honey extractor even at higher speeds without comb blowout.

Quick Return on Investment and Practical Storage

When comparing the costs of wood, wire, foundation sheets, and the time required to prepare traditional frames, plastic frames represent a worthwhile investment with a quick return. An additional benefit is that the recovered wax does not need to be reused for making foundation sheets and can be further processed or offered for sale. Polypropylene also has shape memory – if the frame slightly bends during transport, simply place it on a flat surface and within a few hours it will return to its original shape. For storage, we recommend hanging the frames or stacking them crosswise in a so-called chimney stack.
