This type of hive is most commonly used in world beekeeping and is the most popular choice of professional beekeepers using migratory beekeeping. It is valued for its small size for this type of hive (10 frames instead of 15 as in the classic Dadant Blatt) and lightness (use of polystyrene) and also for the good thermal insulation conditions it provides to the bee colony regardless of the season (keeps warm in winter, protects from overheating in summer).
To separate the Dadant Blatt super from another super placed above, in which the bees are to store honey, we recommend using a queen excluder (can be purchased separately).
Ten-frame Dadant Blatt supers can be stacked on top of each other to increase the space in the hive, e.g., for honey. The super can also be placed, for example, on the inner cover when feeding the colony.
There is 1 ventilation hole in the super. If needed, you can plug it or secure it with a screened plug (included in the set).
The Dadant Blatt polystyrene super is lightweight, but to make it easy to carry even when filled with brood or honey, it has a special profile that makes it easier to grip. Moreover, it is safe - it does not contain any protruding elements.
The super has been painted with a special paint and does not require additional protection against external conditions. Supers can be disinfected with a caustic soda solution.
The most sensitive parts of the super, such as corners and cutouts, have been reinforced with hard plastic. You can safely place the supers at great heights, e.g., during honey harvesting or when storing in a warehouse, or cut them with a hive tool during inspections.
