Queen Excluder DE – Metal 430 × 430 mm

Wire metal queen excluder measuring 430 × 430 mm is used to safely separate the brood chamber from the honey super. It prevents the queen from passing into the honey super section of the hive, so she remains in the brood chamber and does not lay eggs in the honey combs. The openings are designed to allow only worker bees to pass through comfortably. Wire metal excluders are long considered by beekeepers to be among the most passable and most practical. It is recommended not to place the excluder directly on the top bars of the frames, but to position it with a small gap so that bees can move freely under the excluder. The wires of the excluder should be oriented parallel to the top bars. This is a type of excluder particularly popular in Germany – we confidently recommend this metal excluder from the German beekeeping equipment supplier Mellarius.

Pure Honey and Easier Honey Harvest

The queen excluder helps solve a common problem during honey harvesting – the presence of brood in honey super combs. Thanks to reliable separation of the brood chamber, you can be sure that only honey remains in the honey super and bees can cap it undisturbed. In practice, this means faster and more organized work during extraction, higher hygiene and better final honey quality. Additionally, you will reduce unnecessary interventions in the colony and decrease stress when removing honey super frames.

Gentle on Bees and Well Passable

Compared to pressed plastic or stamped variants, this excluder is made of individual wires with a smooth circular profile. Workers therefore do not suffer unnecessary abrasion during frequent passage and damage their wings less. Precisely chosen spacing also promotes air circulation in the hive, which helps bees evaporate water from nectar and can contribute to faster honey ripening. The solid metal construction has a long lifespan and the excluder is easy to clean from wax and propolis, including the use of higher temperatures.
