Pure Beeswax – 1 kg
Beeswax 1 kg. Beeswax is a natural product created by the metabolic conversion of honey and pollen inside the bodies of certain species of bees. In the honey bee, it is produced by worker bees between the 12th and 18th day of their life.
During comb building, the bee literally sweats wax on the so-called wax mirrors on the underside of the 3rd–6th abdominal segments (sternites). The chitinous wall of the wax mirrors is perforated with microscopic pores through which, after increased exertion, the secretion emerges as fresh wax. It solidifies on contact with air and forms a scale that takes on the anatomical shape of the wax mirror. Even when the scale flakes off, it remains partially tucked under the overlapping edge of the adjacent abdominal segment. Did you know that to produce 1 kg of wax, bees must consume 3.5 to 10 kg of honey and around 50 g of pollen? Wax is created by the metabolic conversion of these raw materials in the bodies of worker bees (between the 12th and 18th day of life). The bee literally "sweats" it out on the wax mirrors on the abdomen, from where it is worked with the mandibles into a white substance.
Newly built comb is whitish-yellow in color. In beekeeping terminology, it is referred to as virgin comb. Each emerged bee leaves behind a cocoon lining in the cell – as a result, the comb changes color and gradually darkens over time, progressing from a well-baked roll shade to dark brown. Combs several years old turn black.
Beeswax is used for:
-
Beekeeping: Ideal raw material for casting your own foundation sheets in the wax cycle.
-
Candle making: Beeswax burns with a clean flame, does not produce soot, and releases a pleasant natural fragrance.
-
Cosmetics and ointments: An indispensable base for lip balms, creams, and salves. It creates a protective film without clogging pores.
-
Household and eco-friendly use: Excellent for making beeswax food wraps, wood impregnation, or polishing furniture and footwear.
-
Food industry: Beeswax is edible and safe for consumption (designation E901).
