Durable and hygienic mesh belongs to the basic equipment of every beekeeper who builds hive bottoms, swarm boxes or other hive parts with emphasis on long service life. We offer stainless steel mesh from AISI 304 steel with 3.15 × 3.15 mm mesh, 0.8 mm wire diameter and 1 m roll width. In hive operation, you will appreciate not only the strength, but especially the resistance to moisture and chemicals used in treating bee colonies.
Why stainless steel: certainty in varroa treatment
A humid environment prevails in the hive and during treatment, substances are also used that can damage ordinary galvanized material. Stainless steel 304 (food-grade stainless steel) is significantly more resistant to corrosion and better tolerates contact with organic acids, such as formic acid or oxalic acid, which are used in the fight against Varroa destructor. The result is simple: less rusting, fewer worries and longer service life of the bottom and other beekeeping equipment.
Use in beekeeping practice
The mesh is suitable wherever you need to prevent the passage of bees, but maintain air flow and hygiene in the hive. Thanks to the 0.8 mm wire, the mesh is strong, holds its shape well and does not unnecessarily "wave" after cutting. It is breathable and bee-tight beekeeping mesh, which has proven especially for:
• Varroa floors: mites fall through to the substrate, bees cannot pass through; the mesh also supports effective hive ventilation.
• Swarm boxes and transport boxes: safe ventilation during transport without risk of bee suffocation.
• Mating nucs: ventilation openings, feeder covers and other structural elements.
• Pollen traps and floors for pollen collection.
Construction that lasts
The square weave is precisely woven, the wires are firmly bound and the mesh does not deform even when divided into smaller pieces. The surface of stainless steel is hygienically safe, easy to clean and can withstand flame sterilization during disinfection – without surface peeling, which is typical of galvanized materials.
The price is stated per running meter length. The roll width is fixed at 100 cm. When ordering multiple pieces, we supply the mesh in one piece (e.g. 5 pcs = 5 m in one piece).
