Beekeeping Wire Stainless Steel 0.4 mm – 500 g Spool

A properly wired frame is a fundamental prerequisite for solid comb construction, correct foundation embedding, and safe honey extraction without damaging the combs. Stainless steel beekeeping wire with a diameter of 0.4 mm is a reliable choice for every beekeeper who wants frames that are strong, hygienic, and long-lasting. A spool weighing 500 g contains approximately 495 meters of wire, which is sufficient for approximately 340 frames with dimensions 39×24 and four-wire vertical wiring.

Advantages of AISI 304 Stainless Steel in the Hive

The wire is made of AISI 304 stainless steel, which is valued in beekeeping for its high durability and health safety. In the hive environment, where moisture, vapors, and organic acids are present, it does not corrode or oxidize. This prevents contamination of wax and honey, as well as rust formation on the wooden frames.

You will especially appreciate stainless steel when treating varroa mites with formic acid or oxalic acid, which gradually damage ordinary tinned wires. Thanks to the use of stainless steel, frames remain functional even after repeated colony treatments, and there is no need to rewire them frequently.

Optimal Strength and Easy Handling

The diameter of 0.4 mm represents an ideal compromise between strength and flexibility. The wire is rigid enough to hold the foundation and comb during extraction in the honey extractor, while being flexible enough for comfortable tensioning. During work, it does not break, shapes well, and allows precise tightening using tensioning pliers (crimper).

The material is gentle on the wooden frames and does not cut excessively into the side bars. The use of stainless steel eyelets in the holes (e.g., 3 mm) is possible but not necessary. If needed, the wire can be easily straightened and retightened.

Long Frame Lifespan and Proven Procedure

Frames wired with stainless steel wire can be safely boiled in hot water after the season or cleaned in a steam wax melter. The wires do not need to be removed – after cleaning, simply retighten them slightly with a crimper. To restore tension, it is usually sufficient to crimp a section 2–3 cm long.

Practical tip: Thread the wire through all holes in the side bars and secure one end to a small nail (e.g., 10×1.4 mm). Before final securing of the other end, slightly bend the side bars inward. After hammering in the nail, release the bars – they will return to their position and the wire will be evenly tensioned. A frame prepared this way is ideal for embedding foundation with a transformer with a minimum power of 100 W (at 12 V at least 8 A).
