Nucleus Hive Langstroth Jumbo (6 Frames) – A Solid Foundation for a New Split

Need a practical, lightweight, and reliable hive for expanding your apiary? The Langstroth Jumbo Nucleus Hive for 6 frames is designed to provide stable thermal conditions for a new colony, accelerate its development, and make your everyday work easier. You can use it during the season as well as for overwintering smaller units.

Versatile Use Appreciated by Beginners and Experienced Beekeepers Alike

A nucleus hive is more than just a smaller hive – it is a versatile tool for several important beekeeping operations. It is most commonly used for creating splits and shook swarms, which, thanks to good insulation, gain strength more quickly, especially in cooler spring weather. Simply insert a few brood combs, and the bees can more easily maintain warmth in the compact space and brood more effectively.

You can also use it for:

Queen Rearing: A suitable environment for a queen to begin laying after mating flights and for stabilizing a young colony.
Overwintering: Thanks to the Jumbo system and insulation, it is ideal for overwintering reserve queens or smaller splits.
Transport and Migratory Beekeeping: Safe transportation of small colonies to a new apiary site without unnecessary stress.
Space Reduction: Temporary narrowing of the hive space for weaker colonies so they do not suffer from cold in a large hive.

Insulation That Retains Heat and Saves the Bees' Energy

The hive body is made of extruded polystyrene (XPS / Styrodur) with a wall thickness of 30 mm. In practice, this means better thermal stability – the bees are less burdened by heating the space in early spring, and at the same time the hive does not overheat unnecessarily in summer. The material is non-absorbent and very lightweight, which you will appreciate when carrying it and during routine inspections.

Included is an uninsulated galvanized steel cover that protects against rain and reduces heat loss from the top. Beneath the cover, a crown board film is placed, allowing you to quickly inspect the colony while disturbing it as little as possible. We recommend insulating the cover with polystyrene or another suitable insulation material.

Adjustable Ventilation for a Healthy Microclimate

Proper ventilation is key to the well-being of bees, including during transport. The nucleus hive features bottom adjustable ventilation that helps maintain a suitable climate and reduces the risk of overheating during the transport of splits. You can easily adjust the ventilation to match the current conditions and colony strength.
