Do you need a proven and durable nucleus hive for raising queen bees? The wooden Mini Plus in complete set is a practical choice for beekeepers who prefer natural materials, quality craftsmanship and the possibility to further expand the system. The system is designed for convenient establishment of nucleus colonies, queen rearing and also for keeping or overwintering spare queens in smaller units. Thanks to solid wood and stainless steel details, you get equipment with long durability even with frequent work at the apiary.

Varroa Bottom Board for Mite Drop Control and Healthy Operation

The foundation of the set is a modern varroa bottom board, which significantly facilitates beekeeping management and monitoring of colony health status. The stainless steel ventilation screen supports stable microclimate and air circulation, while the removable drawer allows quick monitoring of natural Varroa destructor mite drop. The entrance can be reduced according to colony strength, which is important especially for small nucleus colonies and mating nucs – it helps limit robbing during periods without nectar flow.

The hive box measuring 280 × 280 × 169 mm is made from solid wood with 22 mm thickness. The wall thickness provides better thermal stability compared to thinner plywood variants and supports faster spring development. Stainless steel frame rests inside the hive box simplify frame handling and reduce propolis buildup.

Frames and Feeder Included – Ready to Use

The set is supplied including wired frames, so you save time with preparation and can focus on actual queen rearing. Included are 6 pieces of frames with top bar width 22 mm and narrowed lugs (8 mm), which help minimize bee crushing during manipulation.

For feeding and stimulation, a large-capacity Mini Plus feeder with volume of approximately 2.5 liters with center cover is prepared. For a nucleus hive, this is an above-standard supply, thanks to which there is no need to open the hive frequently and disturb the colony.

Our tip: We recommend treating the wooden feeder before first use – paint the inside with water-based paint or wax it. This will limit solution absorption into the wood and extend the feeder's lifespan.

Cover with Insulation and System Expansion Possibility

Included is an inner cover with integrated insulation board, which helps maintain heat in the brood area and limits heat loss upward. The outer wooden telescoping cover with overhang protects the nucleus hive from rain and wind. The advantage of Mini Plus is the modular design – you can purchase additional supers anytime and adapt the set to current needs (from queen rearing to multi-story operation).
