Mellarius Brush - wooden, synthetic bristles

Mellarius Bee Brush – Synthetic Bristles

Beekeeping brush with fine synthetic bristles and wooden handle. A proven tool for gently brushing bees off combs during honey harvesting and routine hive work. The soft synthetic bristles allow you to sweep bees off frames delicately, without damaging capped cells or honey comb. Thanks to its practical design, many beekeepers use it as a universal brush for both hive and honey house.

Advantages of Synthetic Bristles in Practice

During hive inspections, it's important to work quickly yet calmly to avoid unnecessarily disturbing the colony. The Mellarius brush has dense, very fine synthetic bristles that brush bees off well, but don't "scratch" or pull on wings. The wooden handle is shaped for a secure grip and the brush is easy to hold even with gloves on.

Synthetic bristles are also significantly more practical to maintain than natural bristles. They don't absorb as much moisture or honey, so when the brush gets sticky with nectar during work, you can simply rinse it in warm water. After drying, the bristles usually retain their shape, fray less, and the brush lasts longer even with frequent use during the season.

Tips for Gentle Bee Brushing

Brush the comb with short, smooth strokes – ideally from top to bottom, or from center to edges depending on how you're holding the frame. The goal is for bees to "slide off" the bristles and not get caught in them. Thanks to the 22 cm brush width, you can sweep most of the frame in several strokes, which shortens the time the hive is open and helps maintain calm in the colony.
