Why it shouldn't be missing from your beekeeping equipment

The main advantage is maximum protection of the queen from accidental injury or loss during interventions. Simply place the cage on the comb and use the sharp stainless steel needles to easily push it into the comb – it holds securely even on uneven surfaces. This creates a safe space where the queen is enclosed without escape holes: she cannot escape to another super, while remaining in natural contact with the bees on the comb.

Compared to woodenmetal versions, this model has a practical plastic top part that serves as a comfortable handle. This makes insertion and removal smooth and secure – with less risk of injury from the needles and better control when handling in close proximity to the queen.

When you'll use the cage most often

During routine colony inspection: As soon as you find the queen on the comb, simply cover her. You can set the frame aside and calmly complete the inspection or intervention without worrying about crushing the queen when reassembling the frames.

When moving combs and creating splits: If you need to move brood combs above the queen excluder or select frames for a split, the cage helps you reliably keep track of the queen. You gain certainty that you won't accidentally transfer her outside the brood chamber and don't have to perform lengthy and disruptive shaking of bees.

When marking and queen rearing: Young, especially unmated queens are very active and can easily fly off the comb. The cage keeps them safely in place, so you can take the frame with the queen to your workshop without worry and then calmly transfer her to a marking cage.
