Professional Queen Marking Pen Uni POSCA PC-5M

Marking the queen bee significantly makes hive inspections easier. You can find her in the hive more quickly and at the same time have an immediate overview of her age and origin. For precise and gentle marking, the Japanese Uni POSCA PC-5M marker pen is ideal, valued by beekeepers for its highly visible mark, ease of use, and durability of the color marking.

Gentle composition for the queen and the entire colony

A major advantage of the Uni POSCA marker is its water-based pigment ink. Unlike common alcohol-based markers, it does not burden the queen with an intense odor, and once dry, the mark is free of unpleasant fumes. The paint provides excellent coverage, has a matte finish, and creates a clean, easily visible dot on the queen's thorax. The ink does not soak into the chitin surface, making it suitable for safe queen bee marking.

Easy to use and precise marking

The marker is easy to handle during work and allows quick marking of the queen without unnecessarily prolonging handling. The round tip with a stroke width of 1.8–2.5 mm creates a distinct color dot on the queen's thorax. The valve mechanism helps regulate the ink flow, so a gentle press of the tip is all it takes and the marking is done in an instant. The fast-drying paint reduces the risk of smearing as well as stress on the colony.

Queen marking color code system

When marking queen bees, an international color code is used, which repeats in a five-year cycle. With POSCA markers, you can easily follow the correct color for the given year and keep better track of your queen records. The color is determined by the last digit of the queen's birth year:

• Year ending in 1 or 6: white
• Year ending in 2 or 7: yellow
• Year ending in 3 or 8: red
• Year ending in 4 or 9: green
• Year ending in 5 or 0: blue

Our tip for beekeepers

Before marking, shake the pen thoroughly until you hear the mixing ball inside the barrel. Then gently press the tip several times on paper or a piece of wood to prime it with paint. We recommend making a test dot away from the queen first to ensure the paint flows evenly and in an appropriate amount.
