Stainless steel queen excluder with frame 435x435 mm DE
Stainless steel queen excluder with frame is most popular queen excluder. Made in several sizes.
Stainless Steel Queen Excluder Mellarius – 435 × 435 mm
Wire stainless steel queen excluder measuring 435 × 435 mm is a solid and long-term reliable solution for separating the brood chamber and honey super. The stainless steel wires are permanently welded into a durable stainless steel frame, so the excluder does not twist or bend and maintains its shape even during intensive hive operation. Its main purpose is to prevent the queen from passing into the honey super – the queen remains in the brood chamber, and the honey super combs thus remain brood-free. The openings are dimensioned so that worker bees can safely pass through, while the queen bee cannot pass. Metal wire excluders are generally considered by beekeepers to be very passable and in practice they prove themselves especially with their stability. This type of excluder is popular primarily in Germany and the version from the Mellarius brand is among the proven variants.

Why Choose a Stainless Steel Wire Excluder
A quality stainless steel excluder pays off especially in operation where you will appreciate strength, hygiene and long lifespan. Compared to common plastic excluders, the stainless steel frame does not deform and better resists propolis and wax deposits. Maintenance is simple – the excluder can be safely boiled or flame-sterilized, which helps maintain a high hygienic standard in the hive. The rounded wires are also gentle on the bees, so workers pass into the honey super more smoothly and without unnecessary delay. A clean honey super without brood also significantly facilitates your work during honey extraction and subsequent comb treatment.
Recommendations and Tips from Practice
For trouble-free operation, it is important to maintain the so-called bee space (ideally 6–8 mm) – the excluder should be positioned so that bees can move freely underneath it and do not remain "tight" directly on the top bars. The excluder wires are best oriented parallel to the top bars of the frames. This way, bees create a natural passage from the bee spaces toward the honey super and the movement is more natural and faster for them. This construction, typical for the German standard, has proven itself over the long term even under full super load.
